Redmond, WA, August 7, 2020

Pattern Computer®, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Leroy Hood, a world-renowned scientist and recipient of the National Medal of Science, to its Biology Advisory Board.

Dr. Hood co-founded the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in 2000 and served as its first president until 2019. In 2016, when ISB affiliated with Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH), Hood became PSJH’s senior VP and chief science officer.

In addition to his position at PSJH, Hood continues his role as chief strategy officer and professor at ISB. His memberships include the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine. Of the more than 6,000 scientists worldwide who belong to one or more of these academies, Hood is among only 20 elected to all three.

“Lee is a personal hero of mine, and one of the great minds in medicine and omics of all kinds. All of us are delighted that he will now be available to our bio and compute teams in wedding our discovery engines to the great new problems in personalized medicine,” said Mark R. Anderson, CEO of Pattern Computer.

In April 2020, the Company announced that two therapy treatments had completed final in vitro organoid testing at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, demonstrating “significant synergistic interaction” in killing malignant tumor cells with statistically “low-to-no adverse effects” on healthy cells. Dr. Hood’s knowledge and background will continue to drive the Company’s biology sector forward.

“The biological data of human healthcare is unbelievably complex and diverse. The key to deciphering this complexity is to integrate the most powerful techniques of computer science to identify data patterns in this complexity and then to employ healthcare domain expertise to turn these statistical correlations into deep insights about human wellness and disease. This is what Pattern Computer is all about, and I look forward to exploring the frontiers of human health with their assembled computer science and domain expertise talent,” said Dr. Hood.

Pattern Computer, a Seattle-area startup, uses its proprietary Pattern Discovery Engine to solve the most important and intractable problems in business and medicine. The company’s proprietary mathematical techniques can find complex patterns in very-high–order data that have eluded detection by much larger systems. While the Company is currently applying its computational platform to the challenging field of drug discovery, it is also making pattern discoveries for partners in several other sectors, including additional biomedical research, materials science, aerospace manufacturing, veterinary medicine, air traffic operations, and finance.
